Tour June 14th

The Tour of the Fracking Country

Lakeland CC are teaming up with Love Leitrim organisation to bring you a cycling tour to promote Tourism and the wonderful cycling routes in the region but also to get the message out that these would be under threat should fracking for Shale Gas start here.

When :  Saturday June 14th

Time : Signon 09:00 – 10:00   Start at 10:00 for 140/100K  10:15 for 50K

Where :  Signon and parking at Belcoo GAA grounds.  Refreshments afterwards in Belcoo Community centre.

Entry : 15 Euros/12 Pounds  with a 1 Euro/1Pound surcharge for non Cycling Ireland members to cover insurance.

Pre-registration :  To get an idea of numbers and to help at Signon, you are requested to pre-register here on the Love Leitrim site – no money is taken.

Routes :

 50K  450M of climb.

This is still a challenging route as there are two fairly tough climbs. The first, the climb up Bernard’s braes comes early while the second the gradual rise from Garrison to Cashel comes after a pit stop at the Organic centre, so should help participants.

100K  with route changes nearly 110K and 1400M of climb

Not to be sniffed at.  Bernard’s Braes, then Rossinver towards Manorhamilton, then turning Left up Saddle Hill, – some wonderful views but a tough climb.  A descent to the N16 before Ascending over Duagh towards Kiltyclogher, with a descent to the pitstop at the Organic Centre. Afterwards a gradual rise from Garrison to farnacassidy cross, where one climbs past the windmills. A descent on the Glenasheever rd towards Derrygonnelly.  A right for Boho just after Derrygonnelly and onto the final climb -the Devil’s S, with vistas over Belcoo and mc Nean lakes,  before descending to Belcoo and well earned shower and refreshments.

140K  only 30K longer than 100K route but with extra 450M of climb

This is the same route as 100K except we turn left after the pitstop in the Organic centre and then turn left up the mountain towards the telecomms mast.  Again some wonderful views of Lough Melvin. A tricky descent before climbing back up onto the bar road,  with Lough Melvin and Fermanagh hills spread out in front of you. A sharp descent with a tricky Right brings one back to the Organic centre and from there progress to Garrison and follow the same route as 100K.
